Anything we entertain our minds
that are constructive, helpful, optimistic and encouraging are manifestation of
positive thinking. Positive thinking means a kind of mental attitude in which
one expects good and favourable results. This type of mental approach allows
the mind to register thoughts, perceptions and mental images that promote
growth and success. A person with a positive mind experiences joy, happiness,
contentment and success in whatever situation.
Everyone faces problems in life but
with a positive outlook, one can remain optimistic. When one expect the best
out of life, he/she does not dwell on bad things and thus bypass all
negativity.
The most successful people
throughout history had this one common trait; they all recognized the power of
positive thinking. Gandhiji was a strong advocate of positive thinking. He
believed – “A man is but the product of his thoughts; what he thinks, he
becomes”.
Positive thinking helps us to
believe in ourself. It motivates us to set goals and reach for them. When we
are expecting positive results, there are no negative thoughts to hold us back.
Our firm faith that all is going to be well not only makes us give our best but
also prepares us to face the challenges that come our way.
Dhirubhai Ambani, at the age of 17,
went to Yemen. He started his journey as a gas station attendant, where he
earned ₹300 per month. He built up the position of sales manager and returned
back to India after 8 years to start up something of his own. He founded
Reliance Industries. Today he is one of the world’s greatest entrepreneurs. It
was his positive attitude and inexhaustible energy that led him through all the
obstacles to emerge as the Indian business tycoon. Because of his overarching
ambition and never-say-die spirit, Reliance was the first Indian company to
feature in Forbes 500 list. Thus positive thinking leads to positive actions
which in turn translate into positive results.
Positive thinkers always find a way
to look at the positive in any situation. Instead of lamenting or grumbling
about things not working their way, they make efforts and look for solutions to
fix their problems. Abraham Lincoln is the greatest example for whom things did
not worked in his way. He was born into a poverty stricken family. He faced
with defeat throughout his life. He lost eight elections, twice failed in
business and suffered a nervous breakdown. He could have quit many times but he
didn’t and because he didn’t quit, he became one of the greatest presidents in
the history of the USA.
M.S. Dhoni is another example. He
started his career as a railway ticket collector. But he was a person with a
dream larger than his reach. He always made constant effort to achieve his
dream of becoming a cricketer. Since he was convinced of positive results of
his efforts, he remained upbeat and optimistic. This helped him to dismiss
unfounded fears, and insulates him from all anxiety and uncertainty related to
the outcome of the results. Finally he became the pride of our country and
India’s World Cup winning captain.
Similarly, Mr. Narendra Modi who
was born into a humble family with limited means. He started selling tea at a
very young age for his livelihood. Irrespective of all the adverse
circumstances, with a positive attitude he kept his face up and started working
in one direction only. Today, he is the Prime Minister of India and one of the
most talked about leaders internationally. Thus when one thinks positively
focuses more on solutions than on difficulties and hence spends more time to
build up his/her strengths rather than feel sorry for his/her shortcomings.
Positive thinking is thus powerful
thinking. In the words of Gibran, “Your living is determined not so much by
what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens”. This has
stood the test of time and still hold true.
Positive thinking, however, does
not mean that negative does not exist. There is a thin line between thinking
positive and living in a state of denial. A positive thinker does not refuse to
recognize the negative but he refuses to dwell on it.
In a world, where doubts and fear
thrive, maintaining a positive attitude is indeed challenging. But if one wants
to achieve success in life, one have to consciously build this mindset. No matter
what happens in life be determined to think positively.
In the words of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul
Kalam –
If
you fail, never give up because
F.A.I.L.
means “First Attempt In Learning”
End
is not the end, in fact
E.N.D.
means “Effort Never Dies”
If
you get No as an answer, remember
N.O.
means “Next Opportunity”.
So
let’s be POSITIVE.
